LAHORE – Vehicles using fake, altered or hidden number plates are now under strict monitoring through the Safe City Authority’s advanced surveillance system.
A Safe City spokesperson said artificial intelligence (AI)-based cameras can quickly identify suspicious, fake and tampered number plates and automatically generate alerts.
The spokesperson said that once an alert is received, all relevant information about the vehicle is immediately shared with nearby field forces to ensure timely action.
Safe City data shows that more than 100 vehicles with fake, cloned or suspicious number plates were detected and apprehended during July with the help of AI-powered cameras.
The spokesperson warned that individuals using fake or modified number plates may face not only fines but also criminal cases under the law.
Safe City officials emphasized that hiding an original number plate with tape, cloth or any other method, as well as making any alteration to the registration number, is a legal offence.
The authority said strict action will be taken against violators without discrimination to ensure compliance with vehicle identification laws and improve public safety.
