MUZAFFARABAD – The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Election Commission has revised the schedule for the third phase of the region’s elections, postponing polling in two districts of Poonch Division.
The revised schedule showed that the elections in Poonch and Sudhnoti districts have been deferred, while the third phase of polling will now be conducted in Bagh and Haveli districts.
Under the original schedule, elections were to be held across four districts of Poonch Division, covering a total of 11 seats. However, the AJK Election Commission has now decided to postpone polling in two of the districts and proceed with elections in the remaining two.
The commission said the third phase would therefore be limited to Bagh and Haveli, while a new schedule for elections in Poonch and Sudhnoti would be issued later.
The decision comes as the electoral process in Azad Jammu and Kashmir moves into its final phase. The first phase of polling was held on July 27, while voters in constituencies included in the second phase cast their ballots on August 2.
The elections are being held for the AJK Legislative Assembly, with political parties and independent candidates competing for seats across the region.
The contestants will now have to wait for the election authority to announce fresh dates before resuming their campaigns according to the new timetable.
