LAHORE – All public and private schools in Pakistan’s most populous Punjab province are gearing up to welcome the students after the summer break.
As the summer vacations 2026 approach their end, speculation is growing over whether the provincial government will extend the holidays amid the ongoing monsoon season.
As per the original schedule, the summer holidays are set to end on 23 August 2026 with schools reopening on 24th (Monday).
Last year, the Punjab government had announced an extension of summer holidays for both public and private schools across the province until 31 August 2025.
Although officials had not specify the exact reason behind the decision, the move came as Punjab experienced heavy monsoon rainfall that had affected several areas and caused flooding in recent weeks.
“It is hereby notified that summer vacations in all public and private schools in province of Punjab are extended w.e.f (with effect from) Aug. 14 to Aug. 31, 2025,” the Punjab School Education Department had said in a notification.
What’s Expected This Year?
Currently, there are no reports indicating that the Punjab government plans to extend summer vacations beyond August 23. Moreover, no major flood threat has been forecast in Punjab’s rivers, raising hopes that schools will reopen as scheduled.
However, the final decision regarding any extension or change in the summer holidays will be taken by the Punjab government.
