AS the coronavirus positivity rate has declined to 2.8 per cent across the country, the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) on Thursday decided to open the doors of educational institutions for normal classes from Oct 11.

A meeting of the NCOC decided to reopen the educational institutions based on the reduced level of Covid-19 spread and the launch of vaccination programme in schools.

It is, indeed, great news not just for students and their parents but also for the entire country as full-scale opening of educational activities sends a strong message of normalcy following damages caused by the deadly fourth wave of Covid-19.

This would also send positive signals to the outside world especially in the backdrop of restrictions imposed on travel by some states.

Education sector was, perhaps, the only one that faced severe restrictions throughout because of the understandable concern about safety of the children.

The Government deserves credit for its mature handling of the entire situation created by the Covid-19 and the successful vaccination campaign that has started paying dividends.

There is a marked decline in Coronavirus cases in the length and breadth of the country and with continued focus of the Government and cooperation of the people the situation is expected to improve further in months to come.
