Ghulam Nabi Memon BS-21 officer of Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) serving as executive director State Life Insurance Corporation has been reinstated as the Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police for the second time, according to a notification issued by the federal government on Sunday. This decision comes after a recommendation from the Sindh government, resulting in a change in leadership within the Sindh Police. Rafat Mukhtar Raja, the outgoing IG Sindh, has been replaced by Ghulam Nabi Memon, with the federal government directing Raja to report to the Establishment Division.
The appointment of Memon comes after a period of delay, which raised concerns among provincial authorities, including Zia Linjar, the provincial Interior Minister.
Linjar expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in appointing the desired candidate for the top policing role and communicated the Sindh government’s concerns to federal authorities. After a 20-day lapse since the initial recommendation, the formal notification appointing Ghulam Nabi Memon has finally been issued, putting an end to speculations surrounding the leadership of the Sindh Police. Ghulam Nabi Memon brings with him extensive experience and a proven track record in law enforcement.
He has previously held pivotal positions within the Sindh Police hierarchy, including Additional IG Karachi, Director Intelligence Bureau Karachi, DIG South, SSP Ghotki, Khairpur, Larkana, Malir, and other significant districts. His reappointment as IG Sindh further amplifies his influence within the law enforcement domain. With Memon’s reinstatement, the Sindh Police is expected to continue its efforts towards ensuring law and order in the province, addressing security challenges, and upholding the rule of law.
His leadership will be instrumental in navigating the complex security landscape of Sindh and fostering cooperation between provincial and federal law enforcement agencies. As Ghulam Nabi Memon assumed his role as IG Sindh once again, the focus will be on enhancing police capabilities, promoting community engagement, and maintaining public trust in the law enforcement authorities.
