Pasban Democratic Party PDP Chairman AltafShakoor here Saturday expressing serious reservations on the method inwhich election of the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) were held hasdemanded reelections to ensure transparency and fair play.In a statement here, he said the PEC, which is the body of professionalengineers, failed to hold their elections online and became dependent onthe Nadra.

Sadly, the link of Nadra was down for four hours on theelection day and the majority of the voters returned back withoutcasting their vote after standing in queues for hours. He said it seems a conspiracy that the Nadra link was only down for thePEC elections while other work of Nadra was running normally as perschedule.

He said it seems that a powerful lobby wants to keep the PEC out of thereach of common engineers, as the PEC has a huge budget and a certaincorrupt mafia wants to misuse it.He said overall just 10 percent vote was cast, and in Karachi it wasjust five percent. He said out of 368000 voters only 31568 votes werecast. He asked the elected persons not to take oath of their offices as theydon’t enjoy the real mandate. He demanded reelection of the PEC touphold transparency and fair play.Altaf Shakoor, himself is an NED graduate of 1982 and remained aspresident of the NED University student union.
