LAHORE – The Punjab Excise Department plays a crucial role in vehicle registration, transfer, and issuance of related documents in the province.
It is responsible for maintaining records of all vehicles, ensuring compliance with tax regulations, and collecting the necessary excise duties.
When a vehicle is bought, sold, or transferred, the department handles the processing of ownership changes, issuing new registration documents, and updating vehicle records.
The department also monitors the payment of taxes related to vehicles, including excise and registration fees, to ensure proper legal compliance and smooth functioning of the vehicular registration system in Punjab.
Transfer of Vehicle Ownership
It is essential for buyers of used vehicles to have the ownership transferred to their names to prevent any potential legal issues in the future.
The Excise Department facilitates the transfer of vehicle ownership, charging a fee based on the vehicle’s engine capacity. This process ensures that the new owner is legally recognized and avoids any complications regarding vehicle registration and liabilities.
Excise Rates of Transfer Fee
According to the excise department, vehicles with engines not exceeding 1000cc [Alto, Mehra, WaongR, Cultus, etc] will incur a transfer fee of Rs2,750.
The transfer fee for vehicles with capacities ranging between 1000cc and 1800cc stands at Rs5,500. Vehicles exceeding 1800cc will attract a fee of PKR 11,000.
Additionally, if a vehicle with an engine up to 1000cc is transferred within ten years of registration, a special charge of Rs20,000 will apply, with a rebate of 10% for each completed financial year.
