LAHORE – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is set to flex its muscle in Lahore on Saturday as the government of Punjab decided to give permission rally in Lahore tomorrow, sources told Pakistan Observer.
Maryam Nawaz-led government will make an official announcement later today as discussions are underway to decide on a venue for the gathering has not yet been finalized. The rally was planned to be held at Minar-e-Pakistan but report said a different location would be allocated to Imran Khan’s party.
PTI is required to stick to the designated site, and any attempts to move to Minar-e-Pakistan or act against the law will result in strict consequences.
In preparation for the rally, Punjab government implemented robust security measures at the city’s entry points, including the placement of over 200 containers at Shahdra, Saggian, and Kot Abdul Malik.
PTI plans to start rally at 4:00pm tomorrow and submitted the necessary application to the Deputy Commissioner.
Lahore High Court (LHC) rejected a petition to prevent the rally, ruling it inadmissible, and instructed the government to decide on the public gathering’s approval by 5:00pm.
Crackdown on PTI leaders
Ahead of PTI rally, Punjab police launched a crackdown on PTI workers and leaders based on directives from top administration.
Raids occurred in several Lahore areas, including Shahdara, targeting party leaders like Engineer Yasir Gillani and Hammad Awan. Police are also seeking to arrest those involved in the May 9 riots.
