PESHAWAR – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s ruling party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf announced major ‘protest call’ in ongoing November as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and other leaders fires salvo at Swabi rally.
Thousands of PTI supporters flocked in Swabi on Saturday, demanding release of former prime minister Imran Khan, who remained in jail since August last year.
In his address, PTI incumbent Chairman Gohar Khan said his party will continue to pursue the release of their leader through constitutional means and legal channels. “We will not seek foreign intervention in Khan’s release, including from countries like the United States,” Gohar emphasized. Pakistan is an independent state, capable of making its own decisions, and that the PTI would follow legal procedures to secure Khan’s freedom.
PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram said Swabi was selected for rally to make it easier for people from both Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab to join the protest. During the rally, Gohar Ali Khan also announced that PTI, along with the Sunni Ittehad Council – an alliance of Imran Khan’s supporters – would challenge the controversial 26th Constitutional Amendment in the Supreme Court. Gohar, a qualified lawyer, argued that the amendment was an attempt by the government to control the judiciary and expressed hope that the apex court would overturn it.
Several issues were raised including silencing dissent, alluding to recent deletion of posts by some individuals, and advised against such actions. He called on the public to remain steadfast in their support for change, stressing that transformation in Pakistan must come from within.
