The Sunni Ittehad Council, backed by the independent MPAs, will be ruling the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly with thumping majority as it is all set to secure as many as 115 seats in the house of 145 thus enjoying much more than two third majority in the KP assembly.
The PTI backed 90 MPAs of the KP assembly under an agreement joined the Sunny Ittehad Council as they were forced to contest polls in the independent capacity following the former Prime Minister Imran Khan founded party was deprived of its iconic symbol Bat in the February 8 general elections.
With an impressive count of 90 independents joining forces with the party, it now stands as the leading force in the KP assembly and is likely to secure 21 seats out of 26 reserved for the women besides claiming all the four seats reserved for the minorities.
PTI had fielded independent candidates in the general elections after the Supreme Court snatched its electoral symbol bat. As a result of elections PTI won 87 KP assembly seats while three independent candidates joined later. However, to secure reserved seats, PTI made an alliance with SIC across the country
On the other hand Pakistan Muslim League-N has seen its numbers rise with three independent members joining, bringing their total count to eight in the provincial assembly. This increase may enable the PML-N to secure two seats reserved for women.
