MUZAFFARABAD – The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has once again activated efforts to remove Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq through a no-confidence motion as the party decided to submit the motion immediately.
The sources said that the PPP’s top leadership has directed its Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to reach Muzaffarabad without delay. They said signatures have already been secured from party lawmakers on the no-confidence resolution, while the name of the new Leader of the House will be finalized and added at the last moment.
The sources further disclosed that Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq has begun holding farewell meetings with his staff, as PPP AJK President Chaudhry Yasin is being considered the party’s preferred candidate for the premiership.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the sources said, decided to support the PPP in the no-confidence move, which is expected to be submitted today.
The sources added that the delay in moving the no-confidence motion earlier was due to a constitutional amendment under consideration in Pakistan.
According to the insiders, the motion requires a simple majority of 27 votes in the AJK Legislative Assembly. However, the PPP claims it has secured support from more than 36 lawmakers for the no-confidence move.
