ISLAMABAD – The political temperature in Islamabad is rising again. After key meeting led by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Pakistan Peoples Party PPP decided to give government a tough time in Parliament, while opposition leaders have also stepped up consultations ahead of the upcoming session.
A strategy for the upcoming parliamentary session was discussed during a meeting chaired by Bilawal, where parliamentary affairs and the broader political situation came under review.
Bilawal later met National Assembly Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas at the opposition chamber of the National Assembly. The meeting focused on parliamentary coordination and the political challenges facing the country.
The talks were attended by PTI Secretary-General Salman Akram Raja, Tehreek Tahafuz Aain-e-Pakistan Secretary-General Asad Qaiser, Vice Chairman Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, PTI Chief Whip Aamir Dogar, MNA Adil Bazai and movement spokesperson Akhundzada Hussain.
PPP leaders Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Sherry Rehman, Naveed Qamar and Nadeem Afzal Chan also joined Bilawal during the meeting.
Bilawal urged opposition leaders to become active members of parliamentary committees and play a stronger role in legislative proceedings. The opposition leaders, however, said they would consult PTI Chairman Imran Khan before taking a final decision on joining the committees.
PPP and opposition leaders also agreed to increase coordination on legislation and parliamentary matters, signalling a potentially more coordinated opposition strategy in the coming session. Bilawal stressed that opposition parties should use Parliament to push for electoral reforms and greater transparency in elections, adding another major issue to the political agenda.
The meeting also turned to the issue of Imran Khan’s transfer to a hospital for treatment following the Supreme Court’s decision. Bilawal welcomed the development, describing it as a positive step and an example of democratic political practice.
With PPP now preparing to put greater pressure on the government and opposition parties discussing closer parliamentary coordination, the upcoming session could witness sharper political confrontation and intense debate on legislation, electoral reforms and Imran Khan’s treatment.
