Says PPP has always respected judicial verdicts
Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has welcomed Tuesday s decision by the three-member Supreme Court bench regarding Imran Khan, saying that the Pakistan People s Party has always upheld the Constitution, the law and respect for the judiciary.
Gilani said the PPP s history was a testament to its consistent respect for judicial decisions and constitutional institutions. He recalled that even during the most difficult periods, including the verdict concerning Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the party maintained its respect for the judicial process and state institutions.
He said that when he himself faced a judicial decision, he respected and accepted the court s verdict, keeping the supremacy of the Constitution and the law above all else.
The Chairman Senate said the PPP holds Supreme Court decision regarding Imran Khan in high regard and stressed that an independent judiciary; constitutional supremacy and the strengthening of democracy are essential for Pakistan s future.
Gilani said the PPP had always raised its voice for democracy, constitutional supremacy, a strong Parliament and the integrity of Pakistan, and would continue to play its role in upholding democratic values and respecting the constitutional institutions.
The Chairman of Senate said that political differences were a separate matter, but respect for national institutions and adherence to the Constitution and law were a collective responsibility. The continuity of the democratic process and mutual respect among all constitutional institutions were essential for a strong and stable Pakistan.
