ISLAMABAD – The polling for the by-elections on six Senate seats has begun.

It will continue from 9 am to 4 pm on one seat in Islamabad, two in Sindh, and three in Balochistan.

The members of all three houses can cast their votes for the new Senate members.

The mobile phones or cameras are not allowed inside the polling stations.

In the National Assembly, there will be a contest between Elias Mehrban of Sunni Ittehad Council and Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani of the Pakistan People’s Party.

In the Senate by-elections from Sindh, Jam Saifullah Khan and Muhammad Aslam Abro from the PPP, while Nazirullah and Shazia Sahil from the Sunni Ittehad Council are the candidates.

For the three Senate seats from Balochistan, there would  be a competition among seven candidates.

It should be noted that after resignations of Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, Nisar Khoro, Jam Mehtab, Prince Ahmed Omar, and Sarfraz Bugti, the six Senate seats were vacant. Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and the Pakistan People’s Party  formed an alliance in Islamabad and Balochistan for the Senate elections.

PPP leader Nayar Bukhari said that the PPP would support the JUI in the Senate elections in Balochistan.

JUI leader Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri said that there had been significant progress politically, and their effort would be to support Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani in the Senate elections.
