Police officer, civilian killed in shoot-out at medical college in Jammu

An Indian police officer and a civilian were killed in, what police claimed, a shoot-out at Government Medical College (GMC) in Kathua district of Jammu region in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. According to reports, the incident unfolded between the Indian Police and a group of what police claimed ‘a group of gangsters’ on the premises of Government Medical College (GMC), Kathua around 10:35 pm on the last night. The exchange of fire resulted in the death of a civilian, whose identity has yet to be confirmed.

During the shoot-out, two policemen, including Police Sub-Inspector Deepak Sharma and Special Police Officer (SPO) Anil Kumar, sustained injuries. While Deepak was transferred from Government Medical College (GMC), Kathua to Amandeep Hospital in Pathankot for advanced treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday morning. Anil Kumar remains under medical care.

The situation has raised concerns and warrants further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shoot-out.—KMS
