Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday directed Pakistan’s diplomatic missions abroad to intensify efforts to identify overseas employment opportunities for the country’s skilled workforce.
Chairing a review meeting focused on expanding job prospects for Pakistani youth, he also ordered the complete digitisation of the Protectorate of Emigrants system to streamline services for overseas job seekers.
The PM instructed the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC), and the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme to ensure the provision of internationally relevant skills training, language courses, and professional certifications.
He said Pakistan’s workforce possesses strong potential and stressed that the government is committed to equipping young people with internationally recognised education, skills, and employment opportunities.
He further directed the relevant authorities to strengthen coordination with other countries to align Pakistani certifications with global standards, making local workers more competitive in international job markets.
PM Shehbaz also sought a report on the performance of technical and vocational training institutions and instructed officials to establish “Country of Destination Centres” while ensuring language training and certification tailored to countries offering employment opportunities.
During the meeting, officials presented a detailed briefing on ongoing initiatives to create employment opportunities for Pakistanis, particularly the youth.
Participants were informed that around 800,000 young people have registered on the Digital Youth Hub, a platform developed jointly by the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme and UNICEF.
Officials said training programmes designed to prepare Pakistanis for overseas employment are continuing. At the same time, Pakistani embassies and missions abroad will share information on available jobs and required qualifications through the Digital Youth Hub portal.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Ministers Musadik Malik, Attaullah Tarar, and Chaudhry Salik Hussain attended the meeting. Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kayani, NAVTTC Chairman Raja Qamar-ul-Islam, Prime Minister’s Youth Programme Chairman Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, and other senior officials were also present.
