LAHORE – The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday formally wrote to the International Cricket Council (ICC), expressing support for Bangladesh’s decision not to travel to India for the upcoming World Cup, citing security concerns.
The media reports suggested that the PCB’s letter endorses the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) stance of not playing World Cup matches in India and urges the ICC to take the matter seriously.
The copies of the letter were also shared with ICC board members, prompting the global body to convene a board meeting today to discuss the issue.
The sources said the ICC meeting will review Bangladesh’s refusal to travel to India.
However, the ICC is unlikely to change the venues of Bangladesh’s scheduled matches.
The PCB, in its communication, proposed that Bangladesh’s World Cup fixtures be hosted in Pakistan as an alternative.
The PCB also called on the ICC to reassess Bangladesh’s participation in the tournament in light of the prevailing situation.
Bangladesh maintained that it will not travel to India for the World Cup due to security concerns and has reiterated this position during ongoing discussions with the ICC.
