Sasui Palijo, the former provincial minister of Sindh, ex-senator, and prominent leader of the coalition party PPP within the current federal government, has denounced the appointment of the contentious chairman to the Sindh River System Authority (IRSA) as a deeply controversial decision.

Known for his advocacy of contentious projects such as the Kala Bagh Dam and other water distribution initiatives, Zafar Mahmood has consistently faced opposition from smaller provinces, particularly Sindh. Palijo vehemently opposes the reappointment of Zafar Mahmood to the IRSA chairmanship, citing his history of disregarding the 1991 water agreement and neglecting the concerns of Sindh and Balochistan.

The elevation of such a figure to the IRSA chairmanship sparks apprehension regarding exacerbating water scarcity and inequitable water distribution among provinces.—Khuda Bux Brohi
