Pakistani batter Gull Feroza has been fined 10% of her match fee and handed one demerit point for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during Pakistan’s ACC Women’s Asia Cup match against Hong Kong in Dubai on Monday.
The ICC said Feroza violated Article 2.8 of the Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which covers showing dissent towards an umpire’s decision.
The incident took place in the fifth over of Pakistan’s innings. After being given out leg-before wicket, Feroza indicated her disagreement with the decision by pointing towards her bat, apparently suggesting that she had made contact with the ball.
The sanction also means Feroza has committed her second offence within a 24-month period, taking her total demerit points during that timeframe to two.
Feroza admitted the offence and accepted the penalty proposed by Supriya Rani Das of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees. Since the batter accepted the sanction, a formal hearing was not required.
The charge was filed by on-field umpires Rabab Ahsan and Rokeya Sultana, third umpire Shivani Mishra and fourth umpire Shathira Jakir.
Feroza’s punishment comes two days after Pakistan captain Fatima Sana was also fined 10% of her match fee for a Level 1 breach during the team’s Women’s Asia Cup encounter with India on Saturday.
Sana was found to have violated Article 2.5, concerning language, conduct or gestures that could disparage a batter or provoke an aggressive reaction following a dismissal.
