Pakistan women’s cricket captain Fatima Sana has been fined 10% of her match fee by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching its Level 1 Code of Conduct during the Women’s Asia Cup encounter against India.
The ICC said Sana violated Article 2.5 of its Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which covers gestures, actions or language directed at a dismissed batter that could be considered provocative or disparaging.
Along with the financial penalty, one demerit point has been added to Sana’s disciplinary record. It was her second offence within a 24-month period, taking her total to two demerit points during that timeframe.
Sana’s earlier demerit point came during a T20 International against Ireland in Dublin on August 6, 2025.
The latest incident took place after Sana dismissed India opener Shafali Verma, who had begun the chase aggressively. Verma was caught off her sixth delivery after chipping the ball back towards the bowler, following which Sana gestured towards the pavilion.
Pakistan were bowled out for just 55 as India’s bowling attack took control of the match. Sana provided some resistance with the ball, taking three wickets, but India completed a seven-wicket victory.
Sana admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Supriya Das of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, avoiding the need for a formal hearing.
Under the ICC’s Level 1 regulations, offences can result in an official reprimand or a fine of up to 50% of the player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
