PESHAWAR – Security forces carried out an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in DI Khan District today following reports of the presence of militants linked to the Indian-backed group, Fitna al Khwarij.
During the operation, troops engaged the militants at their location, and after an intense exchange of fire, 22 militants were killed.
Authorities have launched a follow-up sanitization operation to eliminate any remaining Indian-sponsored militants in the area.
Pakistani Armed forces are facing resurgence of attacks from Tehreek‑i‑Taliban Pakistan (TTP), many of whose militants are based in Taliban‑controlled Afghanistan. Since 2021, militants exploited border regions to launch cross-border raids, suicide bombings, and ambushes against Pakistani security forces, particularly in KP and the tribal districts.
In response, Pakistan conducted intelligence-driven operations, counter-terrorism raids, and border security measures to neutralize militants and dismantle hideouts, but challenges remain due to difficult terrain, local population dynamics, and Khawarij continued use of Afghan territory as a safe haven.
