COLOMBO – The first contingent of Pakistan’s national T20 squad has arrived in Colombo ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup, scheduled to begin on February 7.
The four-member group includes Shadab Khan, Rana Faheem Ashraf, Wasim Jr and Salman Mirza.
The contingent was accompanied by head coach Mike Hesson, bowling coach Ashley Noffke, the fielding coach and other members of the support staff.
The officials said that the remaining players and support staff of the national squad are set to depart for Colombo from Lahore later this afternoon.
The ICC T20 World Cup would be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, with Pakistan scheduled to play all of its matches in Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced that it will not send its team to India for the tournament.
In a statement, the BCB said an emergency meeting of its board of directors was convened, during which the Board of Governors decided that the Bangladesh national team would not travel to India for the T20 World Cup.
The BCB said the decision has been formally conveyed to the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The board said that it was awaiting the ICC’s response, expressing hope that the governing body would take the situation into account and respond at the earliest.
