ISLAMABAD – The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) has allowed electricity consumers to get installed two or multiple electricity meters at their homes subject to meeting certain criteria.
The updated policy will provide relief to joint families, landlords and tenants to have separate electricity bills without any dispute.
This move is aimed at ensuring transparency and fairness in billing.
Multiple Electricity Meters Policy
The updated policy clarifies that additional meters will be permitted only if each family unit has separate living spaces, including an independent entrance, kitchen, and electrical wiring, reports said.
To apply for additional meters, residents must provide documents such as their national ID card, proof of ownership or tenancy, a sworn affidavit, and verification from the respective DISCO.
According to WAPDA, the policy for multiple meters is fully legal, and eligible consumers can now enjoy this service.
Meanwhile, prices of three phase and single phase smart electricity meters have recorded a significant drop, providing much-needed relief to consumers across the country.
The cut in prices of smart meters was acknowledged by Federal Minister for Power Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari who attributed it to the transparent and competitive procurement.
The minister said the prices of smart meters for power distribution companies (Discos) have witnessed a decline of up to 40 percent.
Three Phase Smart Meter Price
Leghari said the price of a three-phase smart meter has been dropped by around Rs20,000, taking the rate to Rs25,000 from Rs45,000.
Single Phase Meter Price
Similarly, the price of a single-phase smart meter has been cut by Rs7,000. These prices are exclusive of applicable taxes.
