ISLAMABAD – Pakistan on Monday extended its airspace ban for Indian aircrafts by another month as part of ongoing security measures amid heightened regional tensions.

The decision would be formally communicated through a new Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) which is to be issued today.

Pakistan had originally closed its airspace to Indian aircraft on April 24, 2025, in response to escalating diplomatic and military strains. The restriction was first extended on May 23, and with the second extension set to expire today, the Civil Aviation Authority will issue a third NOTAM to continue the ban until late July.

According to official sources, the move is intended to ensure the safety of Pakistan’s airspace amid what officials describe as “persistent hostilities” from India. The ban applies to Indian commercial and military flights, though Pakistani airspace will remain open for all other international air traffic.

The airspace closure disrupted Indian flight operations, forced commercial airlines to take longer alternate routes and increase in the operational costs.

Meanwhile, the aviation experts noted that such restrictions while uncommon are not unprecedented during periods of geopolitical instability.

The new NOTAM will outline the specific flight routes and areas restricted to Indian airlines. The Pakistani government emphasized that the measure was temporary and would be reviewed in light of future developments in bilateral relations.
