LEBANON – Pope Leo has reiterated that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state remains the sole lasting solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict.
In remarks made during a flight from Turkey to Lebanon, the Pope spoke to journalists about the Vatican’s long-standing stance on the issue.
The Pope emphasized that the Roman Catholic Church’s leadership has consistently supported a two-state solution for years.
The Pope’s remarks come amid growing international calls for a peaceful resolution to the decades-long conflict, as tensions in the region remain high. The Vatican has long been an advocate for dialogue and peace between Israel and Palestine, with a focus on ensuring both nations can coexist in peace and security.
“We all know that Israel does not accept the two-state solution, but our position remains firm and clear: the creation of a Palestinian state is the only way to resolve this conflict,” Pope Leo stated.
He further stated that in 2015, the Holy See officially recognized Palestine as a sovereign state.
“The Vatican’s recognition of Palestine was a significant step in acknowledging the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people,” the Pope added.
