Pakistani Weightlifter Kashif Wins Gold In Sri Lanka After Borrowing Money To Compete

LAHORE – Pakistani weightlifter Kashif Rehan has won a gold medal at the World Powerlifting Championship, held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, from November 27 to 30.

Rehan lifted a combined total of 310 kilograms, including a 160 kg deadlift and a 150 kg squat, securing first place in the competition.

The championship featured over 350 weightlifters from various countries. Despite facing financial difficulties, Kashif Rehan participated in the event after borrowing money for the trip to Sri Lanka.

Rehan has previously won a gold medal at the Asian Masters Weightlifting Championship, held in Qatar.

He shared that he had faced significant challenges before his international competitions, revealing that he had to sell his car to attend the event in Doha earlier this year.

Additionally, Rehan disclosed that he did not receive government funding for the Doha competition and funded his participation from his own pocket.

Rehan’s achievement at the World Powerlifting Championship adds to his earlier success, marking another milestone in his career despite personal financial struggles.
