LONDON – World-renowned tennis star Novak Djokovic has officially announced his withdrawal from the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA), a body he helped establish, citing concerns over transparency, governance and the use of his voice and public image.
In a statement posted on social media, the 24-time Grand Slam champion said that after careful deliberation, he had decided to fully step away from the association.
Djokovic explained that his decision was driven by reservations regarding the PTPA’s governance structure, transparency issues, and concerns about how his views and image were being represented.
The Serbian player said his focus will now remain on his tennis career and on contributing positively to the sport in other ways.
While extending his best wishes to fellow players, he said that, from his side, his chapter with the PTPA has now come to a close.
Djokovic was among the founding members of the PTPA, which was created to provide an independent platform for professional tennis players, particularly those competing as individual contractors, to collectively raise their concerns and safeguard their interests.
Since its inception, the association has highlighted issues related to player welfare, match scheduling and other professional matters.
It has also initiated legal action against the men’s and women’s tours, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and the sport’s integrity agency, positioning itself as a vocal advocate for players’ rights within the global tennis structure.
