Gold Prices Near Record High In Pakistan Amid Surge In Global Market

ISLAMABAD – gold prices in Pakistan saw a massive surge of thousands of rupees on the first day of the business week.

According to the Sarafa Bazaar Association, the price of one tola of gold has increased by Rs9,200, reaching Rs464,762.

Similarly, the price of 10 grams of gold also rose sharply by Rs7,888, bringing it to Rs398,458.

The annual demand of gold in Pakistan ranges from 60 to 90 tonnes, valued at approximately $8 to $12 billion.

However, more than 90% of this business remains unrecorded. A report by the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) on the country’s gold market reveals that 70% of the domestic gold demand is linked to weddings and other celebrations.

Despite local production, Pakistan heavily relies on gold imports. During the fiscal year 2024, the country imported gold worth $17 million. As of the end of 2025, the country’s official reserves are expected to reach a record 64.76 tons, valued at around $9 billion.

The sudden rise in gold prices is expected to impact the local market, with many buyers and investors closely monitoring the situation.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) extended its bullish momentum on first trading day of the new business week to hit historic high amid rising investor confidence.

The KSE-100 index recorded an increase of 4,152.57 points during intraday trading to reach all-time high of 183,187.50 points compared to previous close of 179,034.93 points.

The stock market has shown exceptional performance, outpacing 15 other countries in both returns and market expansion. Investor participation in the PSX has reached record levels, with the number of stock market investors hitting an all-time high.
