No space for war

The address by Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir at PMA Kakul’s passing-out parade was historic and unequivocal, leaving no room for ambiguity.

Speaking with authority befitting the highest military office, Field Marshal AsimMunir sent a stern and clear message to adversaries particularly India that any fresh wave of hostilities will be met with a strong and decisive response, one that will exceed all expectations of those who initiate aggression. His remarks reflect the resolve, readiness, and capability of our Armed Forces, the attributes that entire Pakistani nation regards with full confidence and pride.

The statement of the Army Chief comes amid persistent and dangerous propaganda from Indian military and political quarters, whose bellicose rhetoric only escalates tensions and increases the risk of miscalculation.Central to Army Chief’s address was sober acknowledgement that “there is no space for war in a nuclearised environment.” The phrase captures a hard reality: nuclearisation raises the stakes so high that prudence and deterrence must guide statecraft. It has always been Pakistan’s firm position that while it does not seek war with any country, it remains fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity should provocation occur.

The Army Chief’s words emphasise that Pakistan’s defense doctrine is rooted in credible deterrence and perpetual readiness, encompassing a full spectrum of military capabilities designed to protect the nation in any scenario. The recent May conflict, demonstrated our military’s competence and resolve. The armed forces delivered a humiliating defeat to the enemy, showcasing professionalism and tactical superiority. In the event of any future hostilities,Asim Munir emphasised Pakistan willshatter the misconceived immunity of India’s geographic vastness, delivering deeply hurting retributive military and economic losses that will be “much beyond the imagination and calculations of perpetrators of chaos and instability.” This was not just a display of military might but a clear signal that Pakistan’s response to aggression will be swift, precise and overwhelming.

While these strong warnings are necessary to deter further aggression and clear misconceptions of the enemy, it is also vital that saner elements within India — those who understand that conflict only breeds suffering and instability — raise their voices for normalisation of relations. Resolution of all disputes, particularly Jammu and Kashmir, remains essential for sustainable peace and stability in South Asia. Pakistan has consistently maintained its principled stance, pledging unwavering moral, political and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people’s legitimate freedom struggle.

But for progress to occur, the onus is firmly on India to create an enabling environment for meaningful dialogue. Pakistan continues to hold the door open for dialogue, peace and resolution of long-standing disputes. The choice now rests with India either to eschew reckless rhetoric or engage in sincere efforts toward peace. For the sake of South Asia’s peace, prosperity and future generations, it is imperative that better sense prevails. It is also for the world community to use its influence for dialogue between the two countries.

In his address, Field Marshal AsimMunir also highlighted Pakistan’s role as a regional stabiliser, underscoring improved relations with key global and regional partners. The recent strategic mutual defense agreement with Saudi Arabia, the enduring all-weather partnership with China and renewed engagement with the United States all indicate a foreign policy trajectory that promises economic growth and strategic benefits. These partnerships enhance Pakistan’s standing as a responsible regional actor committed to peace and progress.
