Petrol prices will remain unchanged for consumers who do not exceeding a monthly usage limit in Iran from September 8, 2026.
Iranian authorities have announced an increase in the petrol prices for consumers who have usage above the limit.
Government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani said the new pricing will take effect from September 8.
New Petrol Price
Under the revised rate, petrol consumed beyond 110 litres per month will cost 10,000 tomans per litre, up from the previous price of 5,000 tomans.
However, there will be no change in petrol prices for consumers whose monthly usage remains within 110 litres, according to the government spokesperson.
Currently, the first 60 litres of petrol are priced at 1,500 tomans per litre, while the next 50 litres cost 3,000 tomans per litre.
The government has introduced the higher rate specifically for petrol consumption exceeding the monthly 110-litre threshold.
One toman is equivalent to 10 Iranian rials.
It comes amid economic sanctions being imposed by the US on Iran as the regional conflict continues to escalate.
Recently, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has said that the Strait of Hormuz was fully open before the United States and Israel launched their attacks.
Baghaei said the United States had imposed what he described as an illegal and brutal war on the region, disrupting commercial shipping and contributing to rising energy prices.
The Iranian spokesperson accused Washington of attempting to blame Iran for disruptions that he said were created by the United States itself.
He said the US was also trying to portray Iran’s conduct as the reason for a war that Washington had initiated.
Baghaei further claimed that the United States had started the war but expected the rest of the world to bear its costs.
He described Washington’s efforts to hold Iran solely responsible for instability in the region as “ridiculous.”
