KANDHKOT – At least six people were killed and several others injured when a speeding passenger coach overturned on the Indus Highway near Kandhkot in Sindh, officials said on Monday.
The rescue officials said that the accident occurred near Sukar Mor, where the passenger coach overturned while travelling at high speed.
The crash resulted in the deaths of six passengers, while several others sustained injuries of varying severity.
The rescue teams rushed to the scene shortly after receiving information about the accident and began an operation to recover the victims. The bodies of those killed and the injured passengers were shifted to Taluka Hospital Tangwani and Taluka Hospital Thull for medical treatment.
The hospital authorities received the injured passengers for treatment, while the bodies were also taken to the hospitals for identification and completion of necessary procedures.
The deputy commissioner said that arrangements were being made to shift passengers who had suffered serious injuries to hospitals in Sukkur. The critically injured victims are expected to receive further medical care at better-equipped healthcare facilities in the city.
The accident caused concern among residents and motorists in the area, while rescue personnel continued their response following the crash.
The officials said the exact circumstances surrounding the accident were being assessed. The initial information indicated that the coach was travelling at high speed before it overturned near Sukar Mor.
The road accidents involving passenger vehicles are a recurring concern on major highways, particularly where speeding and other road safety violations increase the risk of serious crashes.
The local authorities are expected to determine the precise cause of the accident as further details emerge.
