ISLAMABAD – As month of November starts, students and office workers are waiting for day off in accordance with Allama Iqbal’s birth anniversary.
But this year, November 9 falls on Sunday, leaving citizens wondering about holiday on alternate day. Couple of years back, Iqbal Day was officially reinstated as a national holiday, and was even celebrated nationwide with offices, schools, and public institutions closed.
In parts of world, when public holiday falls on weekend, it is usually shifted to the nearest weekday to ensure citizens don’t miss out. Pakistan, however, rarely follows this practice and most holidays stick to their calendar dates, no matter the day of the week.

As of now, there has been no official announcement regarding a compensatory holiday for Iqbal Day 2025, leaving Pakistanis to speculate if they will be forced to celebrate this historic day on a regular Sunday or if the government might allow an extra day off.
