LAHORE – Students in federal capital Islamabad, will enjoy three full days off, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday every week as Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) introduced revised schedule.
Private Schools are now adjusting to new changes, and students are gearing up for a longer weekend than ever before. Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) announced that all private schools in the Islamabad Capital Territory will now operate only Monday to Thursday, with immediate effect.
Islamabad Schools Schedule
PEIRA Secretary Muhammad Javed Iqbal confirmed the decision will stay in place until further notice, urging institutions to strictly comply.
Earlier, Punjab School Education Department said all public and private schools across the region will now remain closed on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, cutting academic week.
“Pursuant to the approval of the Competent Authority, all schools in Punjab shall remain closed on Friday until further orders,” the notification said.
This comes on heels of earlier disruptions in Punjab, where Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz ordered complete closure of all schools until the end of March. The provincial government also imposed strict fuel restrictions for government officials, part of a wider plan to manage the ongoing energy shortage.
The austerity measures do not stop at schools. Both federal and provincial authorities have rolled out a sweeping set of rules in response to skyrocketing fuel prices due to the Gulf conflict. These include an extra weekly holiday, limits on free petrol for ministers, reduced protocol vehicles, and proposals for subsidized fuel for students, all designed to curb fuel consumption and rein in costs.
