ISLAMABAD – As passengers move through the terminals in federal capital, their devices now connect to blazing-fast 5G internet, making browsing a seamless part of the journey.
This historic launch marks Islamabad airport as first 5G-enabled hub, setting the stage for a nationwide digital revolution that will soon extend to other major airports and cities.
Islamabad International Airport made history as Pakistan’s first airport to offer blazing-fast 5G internet, Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) said. Travelers passing through the country’s premier airport can now experience seamless live streaming, crystal-clear video calls, and lightning-speed browsing, marking a revolutionary step in enhancing passenger experience.
The airport authority said 5G services are already active in areas surrounding the airport, with technical upgrades underway to ensure full and improved coverage inside the terminals. Officials confirmed that this groundbreaking initiative is part of a larger plan to modernize digital infrastructure at major transport hubs across Pakistan, with 5G services expected to extend to other key airports soon.
This milestone comes as Pakistan embarks on a nationwide 5G rollout in wake of recently concluded Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS) spectrum auction. Leading telecom operator Jazz has activated 5G at approximately 180 sites in major urban centers, including Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan, and Faisalabad.
The government’s push for 5G is part of a broader strategy to expand the digital economy, improve connectivity, and attract investment in the telecom sector. While the rollout initially focuses on urban areas, 4G networks will continue to grow alongside 5G to ensure widespread access.
