This incident should serve as a glaring wake-up call for the nation. It is essential to recognise that while desire for a better future is understandable, the means by which people are seeking to escape their circumstances are both dangerous and illegal.
While government has made some efforts to combat human trafficking in recent times with crackdown on traffickers, the fight against human trafficking requires a multifaceted approach, with greater emphasis on international collaboration. These traffickers are part of an organised network that operates across borders, exploiting desperate individuals for profit. International cooperation, intelligence sharing and stronger legal frameworks are essential to dismantle these criminal operations.

The government must prioritise identifying and rooting out these “black sheep” within the system, ensuring that they are held accountable for their actions. Awareness campaigns are also needed to educate the public about dangers of illegal migration and human trafficking networks that prey on vulnerable individuals.
The death toll in Morocco is tragic. We need o to take necessary steps to ensure that no more families are torn apart by the horrors of human trafficking.
