KARACHI – Bad news for medical aspirants and students, Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) officially approved a 5pc increase in tuition fees for private medical and dental colleges across the 2025-26 session.
After this decision, fees for upcoming academic year have been set at Rs18Lac 90 thousand, placing a significant burden on aspiring doctors.
Starting from 2026-27, private medical and dental colleges will be given authority to adjust tuition fees freely, based on the Consumer Price Index and the inflation rate. This new policy effectively allows colleges to raise fees year after year, potentially making medical education increasingly expensive and raising concerns about accessibility for students from less affluent backgrounds.
Experts warn that this move, while reflecting rising costs and inflation, could make medical education prohibitively expensive for many families and spark debates on the affordability of healthcare education in Pakistan.
