Significant progress has been surfaced in providing Emergency Rescue Services including heli. to the injured in case of accidents on Motorways and National Highways. Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has written letters to the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu & Kashmir and the Chief Ministers of all the provinces including Gilgit-Baltistan by inviting their assistance in setting up Rescue Centers on Motorways and highways in their jurisdiction on the lines of 1122 so that this important national mission can be completed as soon as possible.
Federal Minister for Communications, Privatization & Board of Investment Abdul Aleem Khan has directed the Federal Secretary for Communications and Chairman NHA in a high-level meeting that the National Highway Authority in collaboration with the provincial Governments should establish such Emergency Rescue Centers at 174 locations on National Highways where ambulance services including helicopters can be provided to the injured persons to transport them.
He said that in case of accidents the injured ones should be shifted to the nearest hospitals as soon as possible for which the 1122 center established at M-2 Lahore-Islamabad Motorway will be extended to other Motorways and GT roads, as well.
Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan said that in addition to all Motorways and Highways, Emergency Centers should also be established at interchanges and the National Highway Authority and Rescue 1122 institutions should work together to be a part of this national service.
Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan further said that making Motorways and highways safe is our top priority for which Emergency Centers of the same design should be established at specific distances.
In this high level meeting, the Federal Secretary for Communications briefed Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan about his contacts with the Chief Secretaries of all the provinces and the progress made so far while the Chairman of the National Highway Authority also briefed the high-level meeting about the preparation of the Emergency Services Centers and the work done by the National Highway Authority in collaboration with Rescue 1122.
It was decided that in addition to the four provinces, such Emergency Rescue Centers would also be set up on the highways of National Highway Authority in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
