LAHORE – The immigration process for passengers at three major airport of Pakistan is set to go smooth and hassle free as significant progress has been made in the plan to install e-gates.
Reports said the location for e-gates at Karachi Airport has been finalized, while preparations are ongoing at Lahore and Islamabad airports.
The e-gates aim to reduce congestion at immigration counters and provide passengers with faster travel processing.
The automated system, to be installed at FIA immigration counters, will allow travelers to verify their identity and travel documents electronically. Authorities expect a noticeable reduction in long waits and queues.
The project is being implemented in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Pakistan Airports Authority, and NADRA. NADRA’s data and technology will play a key role in ensuring security requirements are met.
Reports indicated that e-gates will be installed at both departure and arrival counters to provide equal convenience for incoming and outgoing passengers. Initially, the system will be available at Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad airports, with plans to expand to other airports in the future.
Officials stated that the installation of e-gates will save passengers’ time and help align the country’s immigration system with international standards.
