LAHORE – Punjab including Lahore is likely to receive pre-monsoon rains from today as a rain-bearing system has entered Pakistan from the west.

The onset of rain has brought temporary relief to the citizens suffering from extreme heat and humidity, although discomfort from the humid conditions continues despite a slight drop in temperatures.

In Lahore, the temperatures are expected to range between 28°C and 33°C today while gusty winds are likely alongside rainfall.

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an alert for heavy rains and strong winds in the coming days.

The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) also issued a weather alert for the period from June 25 to July 1, warning of heavy rains and strong winds.

In light of this, Secretary Housing Noor-ul-Amin Mengal has directed all WASA (Water and Sanitation Agency) managing directors to remain on high alert and ensure effective drainage operations.

Managing Director WASA Lahore Ghafran Ahmed confirmed that operational staff have been placed on standby and field teams will be deployed as soon as rain begins to ensure timely drainage and prevent urban flooding.

The authorities have urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel during rain and exercise caution in low-lying areas to avoid potential emergencies.
