LAHORE – More monsoon rains and gusty winds are predicted in Lahore and parts of Punjab on Sunday night and the next two days with occasional gaps.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), strong moist currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal penetrate the upper parts of Pakistan. A westerly wave also prevails over the upper parts of the country.
Under these weather conditions, widespread monsoon rains and gusty winds are predicted in Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sargodha, Khushab, Sheikhupura, Mianwali and Mandi Bahauddin on Sunday night. Isolated heavy rains are also expected. Rains and gusty winds are likely at isolated places in Layyah, Bhakkar, Kasur, Lodhran, Okara, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur and Bahawalnagar.
On Monday and Tuesday, more monsoon rains are expected at isolated places in Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore and surroundings. Isolated heavy rains are likely during morning hours.
Heavy rains may generate flash floods in local nullahs/streams of Murree, Galiat, Rawalpindi/Islamabad. Windstorms and lightning may damage dilapidated buildings and structures like billboards, vehicles and solar panels. Landslides may cause road closures in the vulnerable hilly areas of Murree and Galiyat.
Lahore’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 36°C and 38°C on Monday and between 37°C and 39°C on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Meanwhile, rains and windstorms with isolated heavy falls occurred in Lahore and parts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.

Bhakkar, Noorpur Thal and Layyah remained the hottest places in Punjab, where the maximum temperature was recorded at 43°C. The maximum temperature in Dera Ghazi Khan was recorded at 42°C.
In Lahore, the maximum temperature was recorded at 37°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 80 per cent.
