Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa weather: Heavy rains expected

PESHAWAR – Widespread rains with isolated heavy falls are expected in Peshawar and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday night and Monday.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), strong moist currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal penetrate the upper parts of Pakistan. A westerly wave also prevails over the upper parts of the country.

Under these conditions, widespread rains with isolated heavy and at times very heavy falls are expected in Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Charsadda, Mardan, Buner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Kurram, Orakzai, Waziristan, Kohat, Karak and Hangu on Sunday night.

On Monday, partly cloudy weather is expected in most districts of the province. However, rains and gusty winds are likely in Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Charsadda and Mardan. Isolated heavy and at times very heavy rains are likely during morning hours.

Heavy to very heavy rains may generate flash floods in local nullahs/streams of Galiyat, Swat, Shangla, Malakand, Dir, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kohistan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera and Swabi. Windstorms and lightning may damage dilapidated buildings, billboards, vehicles and solar panels. Landslides may cause road closures in the vulnerable hilly areas.

Peshawar’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 38°C and 40°C on Monday and between 39°C and 41°C on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Meanwhile, rains and windstorms occurred in the upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours.

Dera Ismail Khan and Bannu remained the hottest places in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where the maximum temperature was recorded at 42°C.

In Peshawar, the maximum temperature was recorded at 39°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 58 per cent.
