ISLAMABAD – Pakistan is getting ready to light up cities night with fireworks at key locations, while a grand City Parade packed with music, cultural performances and patriotic tributes. But amid the celebrations, strict security and traffic restrictions are also set to shape the Independence Day festivities.
The celebrations come with heightened security and sweeping traffic arrangements, particularly in the federal capital, where authorities have begun preparations to manage large crowds and movement during the national festivities.
Lahore fireworks on August 14
Lahore will light up on Independence Day as fireworks are planned at five locations across the city, Greater Iqbal Park, Liberty Chowk, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park, Kumahan and Adda Plot.
Private organisers can obtain no-objection certificates (NOCs) for Independence Day events until August 13, 2026. However, authorities will not permit celebrations at sensitive locations.
Fireworks will be restricted to properly secured venues, while organisers must obtain a police report from the relevant police station before holding their events.
Islamabad Independence Day Parade
The federal capital is preparing for a major City Parade, with special arrangements being made for families and children. The event will feature an Azadi Concert, including a band parade, horse dance and traditional Khattak dance. Mascots representing Pakistan’s different provinces will add a colourful cultural dimension to the celebrations.
FC, Islamabad Police and Islamabad Traffic Police will participate in marching displays, while special entertainment programmes will be arranged for children.
Top singers will perform on the theme of Independence Day. The celebrations will also include tributes to personnel of the police, Rangers and Army who sacrificed their lives in service of the country.
Preparations are already underway at D-Chowk, which is being turned into the centrepiece of the capital’s celebrations. A dedicated parade ramp, VIP stage and media centre are being constructed, with seating for more than 4,000 spectators planned at the venue.
A substantial police contingent will be deployed around the event to maintain security and manage the expected crowds.
Traffic Update
The celebrations will also bring significant changes to Islamabad’s traffic network. Authorities have announced a ban on the entry of heavy vehicles into the capital from August 12 through August 14 as part of the Independence Day security plan.
Traffic on both sides of the Expressway between Koral Chowk and Khayaban Chowk will be closed, while Faisal Avenue will also remain shut in both directions.
Motorists will be directed toward alternative routes, including Rawat GT Road and the Koral Expressway leading to the Khanna Pul loop. Several important roads are expected to remain open, including Lehtrar Road, Park Road, Rawal Dam Chowk, Murree Road, Serena Hotel, Suhrawardy Road, Jinnah Avenue and Margalla Road.
Those travelling from Khayaban Chowk toward Koral can use Jinnah Avenue, Ninth Avenue, Double Road and Murree Road as alternative routes. Old Airport Road, connecting Rawalpindi with Koral, will remain open for traffic heading toward Rawat.
