Authorities have taken measures to control dust pollution from construction activities in Lahore to check deterioration in the city’s air quality during smog season.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued notices to the Lahore Development Authority (LDA), directing it to ensure strict compliance with prescribed dust-control standard operating procedures (SOPs) at construction sites.
Contractors violating the rules will face fines, while construction sites will not be allowed to spread dust and soil onto roads or nearby residential areas.
Under the tightened measures, mist sprinkler systems must be installed at construction sites, while sites are required to be enclosed with barriers at least 10 feet high. Vehicles transporting soil and construction debris have also been directed to maintain low speeds.
The EPA warned that legal action would be taken against projects and contractors failing to comply with the dust-control regulations.
