Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi staged a major protest outside the Karachi Press Club, drawing participants from all walks of life. The demonstrators, wielding placards and banners, voiced their discontent against the Sindh government, police, and law enforcement agencies. Addressing the crowd, JI leaders Muslim Pervez and Syed Abdul Rasheed denounced the deteriorating security situation in Karachi.
Pervez announced plans for protests outside all seven SSP Offices in the city on April 20, emphasizing the party’s unwavering commitment to Karachiites’ rights.
Pervez criticized a Sindh minister for downplaying crime statistics and demanded a more lenient arms license policy for citizens’ protection. Highlighting the failure of law enforcement agencies, he advocated for community policing to combat escalating crime rates. Echoing Pervez’s sentiments, Abdul Rasheed attributed Karachi’s plight to the prolonged rule of the PPP in Sindh. He lamented the deployment of thousands of police officers for VVIP security, leaving citizens vulnerable to crime.
The grim statistics presented by Rasheed underscored the urgency of the situation, with 62 Karachiites killed and 21,000 crimes reported in the last three months alone. He criticized the incomplete Safe City program, highlighting its failure to safeguard ordinary citizens, signaling a need for immediate action to restore peace and security in Karachi.
