Federal Minister of National Heritage & Culture Division Syed Jamal Shah and Federal Secretary Humiara Ahmed on Tuesday visited the National Language Promotion Department (NLPD) and were briefed about its working.
This was Jamal Shah’s first visit after assuming the charge of Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Division to the National Language Promotion Department.
Director General Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem Mazhar and senior colleagues of the NLPD welcomed the guests and informed them about the current performance of the NLPD and the future plans.
He said that along with Urdu, other languages of Pakistan were also important and paying attention to them will also strengthen Urdu.
The federal minister said that work on children’s literature in the country was negligible. Regarding children’s literature, they will organize a joint international conference with the cooperation of all the institutions under the Division. Such conferences and programmes should be made known to children in their own languages, he further said adding, it would help in attracting towards culture and literature. He said that the National Language Promotion Department should organize events related to children in collaboration with other academic institutions of the country so that children’s literature can be promoted because this work comes under the scope of our ministry.
Dr. Muhammad Saleem Mazhar expressed that the NLPD has done excellent academic and research work, which has been appreciated by scholars and public circles. He said that for the promotion of the national language, collaboration and cooperation with the departments of Urdu of established universities in the country and abroad will be increased. Finally, the publications of the NLPD were presented to the Federal Minister and the Federal Secretary.
