Significant rains and gusty winds are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and parts of Pakistan on Thursday night and Friday (Independence Day).
Isolated heavy downpours are also expected during the forecast period.
Synoptic Situation
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), moist currents from the Arabian Sea are penetrating upper parts of Pakistan and likely to intensify tonight. A trough of westerly wave also prevails over north-western parts.
Weather Forecast
Intermittent rains with isolated heavy downpours are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Punjab on Thursday night and Friday.
Impacts
Heavy rains may cause urban flooding in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Mardan, Swabi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot and Lahore.
Landslides may occur in vulnerable areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Buner, Battagram, Mansehra, Haripur, Abbottabad), Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir.
Temperatures Forecast
Daytime temperatures in Islamabad are expected to remain between 34°C and 36°C on Friday and between 35°C and 37°C on Saturday.
Daytime temperatures in Rawalpindi are expected to remain between 33°C and 35°C on Friday and between 34°C and 36°C on Saturday.
Thursday Weather
Over the past 24 hours, hot and humid weather prevailed over most parts of the country. However, wind/thundershowers occurred at isolated places in upper Punjab and Khuzdar.
