Intermittent rains and gusty winds with downpours are likely in Lahore and several parts of Punjab on Independence Day, August 14, and the following day.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), moist currents from the Arabian Sea are penetrating the upper parts of the country and are expected to strengthen tonight. A trough of a westerly wave is also affecting northwestern areas.
Under the prevailing weather system, intermittent rain and heavy downpours are likely in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Gujrat, Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Pakpattan, Kasur, Okara, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sargodha, Mianwali, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Kot Addu, Layyah and Bhakkar through August 15.
The PMD warned that heavy rainfall could trigger urban flooding in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot and Lahore. Landslides are also possible in vulnerable areas of Murree and Galiyat.
Lahore is expected to experience daytime temperatures of 33°C to 35°C on Friday and 34°C to 36°C on Saturday.
During the last 24 hours, most parts of Punjab experienced hot and humid conditions, while rain was reported in Lahore and some other areas.
Lahore’s Iqbal Town received the highest rainfall at 21mm, followed by Lakshmi Chowk with 13mm, Nishtar Town 11mm, Gulberg 8mm, Pani Wala Talab 7mm and Johar Town 4mm. Mannawan, Gulshan-e-Ravi and Garden Town Ali Block recorded 3mm each, while Samanabad, Upper Mall and Shadi Pura received 2mm each. Jail Road and Farrukhabad recorded 1mm each.
Faisalabad received 8mm of rain and Gujranwala 2mm.
Lahore recorded a maximum temperature of 35°C, while evening relative humidity stood at 63 percent.
