Another spell of monsoon rains and Gusty winds are forecast across the upper and central parts of Pakistan from August 13 to 15, with occasional breaks.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), moist monsoon currents are penetrating the upper regions of Pakistan, while a westerly wave is also influencing these areas.
Rain and thundershowers, accompanied by gusty winds and isolated heavy falls, are expected in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northeastern Punjab from the night of August 12 through August 15.
Areas likely to receive rain include Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Bagh, Kotli, Mirpur, Diamir, Astore, Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Haripur, Kurram, Khyber, Murree, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura and surrounding districts.
Islamabad, Rawalpindi and the Pothohar region are expected to experience rain and thunderstorms from the evening or night of August 13 until August 15, with intermittent gaps.
Rain and thunderstorms are also likely in Sargodha, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Khushab, Layyah, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Zhob, Barkhan and Musakhel during the same period.
In Sindh, partly cloudy to cloudy conditions are expected in southeastern and coastal areas. Tharparkar, Umerkot and Sanghar may receive rain and thunderstorms on August 12 and 13, while hot and humid weather is likely to persist in other parts of the province.
Potential Impacts
The Met Office warned that heavy rainfall could trigger urban flooding in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Mardan, Swabi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot and Lahore.
There is also a risk of landslides in vulnerable mountainous areas, particularly in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir. Tourists and travelers have been advised to exercise caution while visiting these areas.
Farmers have also been advised to plan agricultural activities according to the forecast and take necessary precautions to protect livestock.
