ISLAMABAD – Rooftop cafes and restaurants across the capital are facing a deadline for fines and other enforcement action by CDA as these eateries got 15 days to regularise their operations and get required approvals.
Capital Development Authority (CDA) has put rooftop restaurants, cafes and other businesses across Islamabad on notice. The warning comes from the CDA’s Building & Housing Control Wing, which directed owners, occupants and managements of rooftop commercial establishments to obtain the required approvals under the authority’s approved Rooftop Policy and applicable building regulations.
The directive covers rooftop businesses across the CDA’s jurisdiction, from city’s sectoral areas to private housing societies. According to public notice, the crackdown is being carried out in the interest of public safety and under the Islamabad Capital Territory Building Control Regulations 2020, as amended in 2023.
For rooftop businesses, the message is straightforward: comply within the deadline or risk being shut down. The 2 weeks period will run from the date the notice is published. During this time, affected businesses must complete the regularisation process and secure the necessary permissions from the competent authority.
But once the deadline passes, the CDA has warned that businesses continuing to operate without the required approval could face immediate action. That action could include sealing the premises or stopping the rooftop business activity, along with fines and other penalties under the applicable rules.
CDA also urged business owners and operators not to delay the process, stressing that the matter should be treated as urgent. With the deadline now in place, rooftop businesses across Islamabad face a clear choice: regularise their operations, or risk seeing the CDA shut them down.
