ISLAMABAD – Police in capital city of Islamabad have announced a traffic diversion plan for the Independence Day celebrations scheduled for August 13, 2026, at the Victory Memorial in H-8.
The movement of heavy traffic into Islamabad will remain restricted from midnight on August 12 until midnight on August 14.
Several routes will also be closed or diverted for smaller vehicles during the celebrations.
Islamabad Traffic Update Today
Police said traffic coming from Koral Chowk towards Khayaban Chowk will face closures on the Expressway and Faisal Avenue. Commuters have been advised to use alternative routes, including Rawat GT Road, Lehtrar Road, Park Road, Rawal Dam Chowk, Murree Road, Sohrwardi Road and Jinnah Avenue.
A number of links around Faizabad, including the loops connecting Faisal Avenue and the Expressway, will also be closed. Motorists travelling between Rawalpindi and Islamabad have been advised to use Ninth Avenue, Jinnah Avenue or routes through Murree Road and Rawal Dam Chowk.
Roads around I-8 and H-8, including sections near the Victory Memorial, will be closed to traffic. Residents of the two sectors have been advised to use Ninth Avenue and Jinnah Avenue for travel towards Islamabad, while those heading towards Rawalpindi can use IJP Road, Double Road and Murree Road.
Further closures will affect routes around Shakarparian, Chand Tara T-Cross and Peshawar Road.
Authorities have also outlined emergency routes for ambulances and hospital visitors. Shifa International Hospital can be accessed via Ninth Avenue and Colonel Sher Khan Road, while routes to PIMS, Polyclinic and CDA Hospital have also been specified.
Citizens have been urged to plan journeys in advance and use the designated alternative routes to avoid inconvenience during the celebrations.
